In the heart of the Aegean Sea, under the shadow of the great marble gate of Portara, Naxos island hosts the 2nd PORTARATHLON, International Combined Events Meeting.

The women’s Heptathlon and the men’s Decathlon, will be held on the 8th and 9th of June, at the Municipal Stadium of Naxos.

The 2nd PORTARATHLON International Combined Events Meeting welcomes athletes from all over the world. Cyprus, Serbia, Romania, Iceland, India and Australia will be with us.

The most important greek women heptathletes and the best men decathletes are expected at the PORTARATHLON Meeting since their participation is a criterion for the assembly of the Greek National Team of combined events, for its international competitions.

All the participating athletes are anticipated to achieve outstanding performances and personal records. Besides, the excellent weather conditions of the island in June supports the achievements of great athletic performances.

Those who will find themselves in Naxos on the 8th and 9th of June, will enjoy the great athletic show, the fantastic natural scenery that Naxos offers, the positive energy that the Apollo temple transposes and indulge in the famous Naxian hospitality.

south aegean regionIt is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 1st International Combined Events Meeting on one of the most beautiful islands of the South Aegean, Naxos.

I warmly congratulate the co-organizers and the supporters of this special and multi-symbolic event, which takes place for the 1st time in Greece. Its aim is to become an institution and each year to attract the best European and Mediterranean Heptathlon and Decathlon athletes to Naxos.

Great International Events, such as this, shape sports education and promote fair play. Simultaneously, they combine ideally sports with tourism and they create new travel experiences, giving to visitors the opportunity not only to be spectators but also participants.

The International Combined Events Meeting can be a mainspring for the development of sports tourism, proving in practice that our islands fulfill all the criteria to host great sports events of international caliber and prestige, enhancing the extroversion that is suitable and worthy for South Aegean Region.

The South Aegean Region invests on extroversion and actively supports every initiative that brings our islands closer to where they belong: the top.

The Municipality of Naxos and Small Cyclades greets the 1st International Combined Events Meeting in the Municipal Stadium of the island.

Naxos can guarantee the successful hosting of the event and can also attract other athletic events of high standards. Drawing on the experience of organizing numerous sports competitions successfully, our Municipality supports the 1st International Combined Events Meeting with all its means and infrastructure, in collaboration with the responsible statutory and voluntary entities.

With the active participation of all of us, we can provide incentives to young people, channeling their interest to creative activities.

Welcome Note from the Head of the Organizing Committee of PORTARATHLON, Vassilis Sevastis


Dear Friends,

SEGAS the Hellenic Athletics Association and its Regional Committee in Cyclades, taking into consideration the necessity of staging Combined Events Competitions in the area, have initiated in 2018 an innovative effort, by organizing an International Combined Event Competition, based on the close cooperation of the Federation and its Regional branch office.

Therefore and for a second year in a raw, “Portarathlon” International Combined Events Meeting is being staged at the beautiful Island of Naxos, an island with an important history in athletics. The event will have a positive impact not only to the combined events evolution, but also to the local society of Cyclades and South Aegean area, as it is related to social, ecological and scientific matters.

The Hellenic Federation (SEGAS) acknowledging the importance of this competition, decided to make of it the trials for selection of our National Team to compete in the 2019 European Teams Combined Events Championships.

Based on our organizational experience as well as on the enthusiasm of our local collaborators, we aim to make of “Portarathlon” one of the key-competitions for Combined Events, attracting decathletes and heptathletes from all over the world and make them include our competition in their annual plans.

It is my pleasure to welcome here in Naxos all the athletes, officials, judges and sports fans and on behalf of SEGAS Board, I take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to the Region of South Aegean, the Prefecture of Naxos and the Local Culture Organisation.

EAS SEGAS CYCLADES welcomes you to the 2nd  Portarathlon Combined Events Meeting that was first organized in 2018 and will continue to exist for many years to come.

The stakes that every year the Meeting will go higher as far as participants, standards, performances and popularity are concerned, look like they have been won.

In the time between the 1st Portarathlon and now, we have received numerous messages from athlete and executives internationally, asking us for information about the next meeting.

We can assure you that the Meeting will always be beautiful because it is organized by people with beautiful souls, that love classic athletics and the ideals it stands for, they respect the athlete’s efforts and respect their needs. They are supported by people who love their land and want to see its progress in every field, such as sports, since it’s the pillar of civilization.

I would like to thank the athletes, the coaches and the executives that honour us with their presence and I promise them an athletics meeting worth of their expectations.
