In the heart of the Aegean Sea, on the largest island of Cyclades, Naxos, there is Portara, the ancient gigantic marble gate of Apollo’s temple at the entrance of the port.
This symbol of Naxos’ past and present lends its name to PORTARATHLON: a unique athletic experience for athletes and spectators alike. PORTARATHLON the 1st International Combined Events Meeting takes place on the 2nd and 3rd of June in the Municipal Stadium of Chora Naxou.
For the first time in Greece, the one-and-only in the East Mediterranean Sea and Southeastern Europe, PORTARATHLON is meant to attract the best athletes from Europe and the Mediterranean. It promises to offer high-quality athletic spectacle, fun and much more. Sports activities for children, beach party, parallel activities for environmental protection and a scientific seminar will provide extra opportunities to put athletics in a different perspective!
You will enjoy Naxian hospitality and the expertise of an experienced project team who join forces with local, regional and national stakeholders to make the event unforgettable.

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to PORTARATHLON 1st International Combined Events Meeting, which takes place for the first time in Greece, in Southeastern Europe and East Mediterranean Sea. It is hosted on the Municipal Stadium of Naxos.
This combined events meeting promotes the good sportsmanship of athletics and provide the opportunity to develop the spirit of collegiality. It is also known that the track and field events of Heptathlon and Decathlon are the most difficult ones in the Olympic Games and motivate the most multidimensional athletes.
I would like to thank all the athletes, the coaches, the judges and the officials that honor us with their presence. Everybody will contribute to reach our goal to establish this event as an international meeting with a rising recognition and popularity, offering spectacle and intense emotions.
Moreover, I wish to thank the Region of South Aegean, the Municipality of Naxos & Small Cyclades and NOPPAPPA for their cooperation and support, since without them we would not have made this event possible. A great thanks for all the volunteers, who never get tired of literally supporting athletic competitions.
We all together try to organize an athletic event of high standards, which will become a benchmark in the years to come.
